Biography
Being the only child of a Methodist preacher in Port Angeles, WA, I grew up under a microscope. My mom had been a pretty good musician with a promising future, from what I've been told, before she and Dad got married, and I wanted to be just like her. I guess I was kind of a bad kid when I was in grade school; always getting into fights, pulling pranks on the teacher (especially when we had a sub), and just generally not doing what I should be in school. That changed the summer between my fifth and sixth grade years, I think I was about ten years old, when Dad made me a deal: He'd buy me a guitar and get me lessons if I'd shape up.
That's all it took. Well, that and medication. Turns out I've got ADHD. You know, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. Turns out that's the reason I could never focus in school and would get bored so easily. Anyway, after I started taking drugs (the doctor prescribed kind) things really got a lot easier. My guitar teacher told my parents that I had some talent and a natural sense for music, so they arranged for me to take piano lessons from the pianist in my dad's church. I was in choir in school when my voice started breaking when I was thirteen. I just about died until it leveled out again. You see, I love to sing. My whole life I've been making up little ditties and singing them to my parents.
When I was fourteen, I went off to summer camp with the church youth group and had the most amazing mountain top experience. We'd gone to Southern Methodist University down in Dallas Texas for Student Life and got to stay and go to Christian Youth Weekend at Six Flags over Texas (that's a theme park down there with some awesome coasters). The night we went, there was this band called Third Day playing. They totally rocked, man, I tell you! Mac Powell, he's the lead singer for Third Day, spoke a little bit about his testimoty and it really hit home for me. I spoke to Berry, our youth leader, and was baptized by my dad when we got back.
I'm not going to say that I've never done anything bad since then, but, I have been trying and, through God's grace, I have managed to not get into too much trouble. A couple years ago, some friends and I decided to put together a band. I know them all through the church and we all have a passion for Christ and sharing the Gospel, so we mostly sing songs with a message. We play every Wednesday night for the youth group and we've even managed to start booking a few small time gigs around town. I'm totally psyched to see what God has in store for us in the future.
Timeline and Current Plots
Personality
Jimmi can't seem to stop moving. He's always got to be doing something, even if it's just picking out a tune on his guitar. He's very friendly and loves nothing more than to spread the message of the Cross to the masses through his music. He loves to joke around and has been known to sing some pretty funny songs at some of the gigs he and his band play at. He likes to play pranks on his friends and to jump out and scare them for no other reason than pure amusement.
Relationships
Name | Relation | Notes |
William Graves | Father | Jimmi holds his father in the utmost respect and deeply admires how he can seem to draw the congregation into the sermon as though it's the most thrilling story ever told. He aspires to be able to speak as well as Reverend Billy Graves someday. |
Patricia Graves | Mother | She's very proud of her son and supports him in all he does. Between the two of his parents, Jimmi is probably closer to his mom because he feels he has more in common with her. They are both musicians and she was usually the parent to go chaperon church functions. |
